His interest in film-making propelled him toward media activism, but he became concerned that activists appeared to reject spirituality - an anomaly, since activists care very deeply for humanity. Most religions offer a very narrow bandwidth to define spirituality, Ripper says, and he began to feel that, as an activist, he was in the closet spiritually. During the making of Scared Sacred, he came to understand that those people who survived great suffering, for example, in concentration camps, were those who held on to a sense of meaning in their lives. This new film took him on an exploration to find that sense of meaning. It has been a transformative experience.

"Come with an open heart," Ripper said. "This film appeals to the heart and not the head. We live too much from the neck up. You'll get more out of it if you allow it to be an experience."
