Why:
Its been three years since the eviction of the SCFs from 41st and Alameda. The City Council and the Mayor have failed to address the economic disparities in the community. The City of LA is sitting on 137 Million Dollars of QUIMBY funds (collected from developers to put in parks and green open space) that can be used to purchase the farm back and put in the hands of the community. This will address the 8% increase in the bread basket goods for low income people. The rise in the bread basket for more middle class families has only risen 6% across the U.S.. We want to urge the Mayor and the City Council that in these dire economic times the South Central Farm makes sense. LA Port Shipping is down by 40% so it is going to be very hard to convice the community that we need one more warehouse in South Central Los Angeles.
L.A.Taking the Farm Back means that Community Quality of Life cannot be sacrificed for a low wage job.
L.A. Taking the Farm Back means growing your own food is better than USDA commodity surpluses.
L.A. Taking the Farm Back means community well being over developer greed.
L.A. Taking the Farm Back means growing your own food is a Green Job.
L.A. Taking the Farm Back means no more Forever 21 slave wage contractors.
L.A. Taking the Farm Back means ultimately no warehouse on 41st and Alameda.
L.A. Taking the Farm Back means a healthy and self-reliant community of South Central L.A.
